We now have a new event page on facebook so check it out!

The event page is to track the progress of the Yorkshire Water IT team (The YW mountain Goats, key sponsor 2BM - Data Centre specialists) as they attempt the famous 6 peaks challenge in July 2012 to raise money for WaterAid, Yorkshire Water's designated charity.

Links to tracking will be put on this page when we set off up the first mountain

Hi,
I am Marjan Tadbir and I have been working in IT Service Management for over two years now. I have always been interested in taking part in one of the Water Aid challenges but never actually got round to joining one. I have never taken part in such a big challenge so I’m very excited about it. We have been training for the challenge for a while now and are definitely getting better in working as a team.  I’m definitely looking forward to July and travelling to the parts of the country that I have never visited before.

Top of the world (or it felt like it)

This phot was taken from the top of Helvellyn in the Lake District following a rather interesting traverse across Striding Edge and up a small (but quite scary) amount of snow.

I have always had an interest in 'doing my bit'  and last year I took part in the Corbett Challenge and the Way of the Roses cycle ride for WaterAid. I managed to raise over £800, which I was extremely pleased about. This year I wanted to push myself further whilst continuing to raise awareness and money for the charity with my friends & family so I signed up to do the 6 peaks walk & the Walney to Whitby cycle ride.
My training since mid-January has included a number of solo walks & a couple of walks with the team and my total miles walked is around 100.
We need to do more multiple day walks and am hoping to do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks at some point before the walk. My favourite walk so far was the Buckden Pike & Great Whernside walk which was a bit boggy but fun.
I'm well up for and looking forward to the 6 peaks walk. I think we have a good team who all get along and with a bit of training we should be able to complete it, although I have heard that the lack of sleep is the biggest challenge.

Paul R Grayson
Hi, I’m Palvinder Singh and work in Yorkshire Water IT, I am a very active person regularly searching for new challenges. I know this is going to be a big one but will be so worth it, as it’s for a good cause and it will be a great achievement.  We are currently training as a team going on regular hikes around Yorkshire and this weekend we’re going to walk Helvellyn, the third highest mountain in England. I am really excited about the challenge ahead and can’t wait to see the amazing scenery.

The Team and the Challenge

The YW Mountain Goats are a group of 7 people from Yorkshire Water's IT department, comprising of Sunny Cheema, Marjan Tadbir, Paul Grayson, Bob Shaw, Palvinder Singh, Julian Halstead and Clare Wootton.

This year the team has entered into the famous 6 Peaks Challenge to raise money for Water Aid, Yorkshire Waters designated charity. Water Aid is an international non governmental organisation whose mission is to transform lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world's poorest communities. The 6 Peaks Challenge is to visit the summits of the highest peaks of the six regions of the British Isles (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Isle of Man), all within 72 hours! In total the team will walk 50miles, climb 20000 feet, drive 1000 miles, cross 2 seas climbing Ben Nevis, Snaefell, Scarfell Pike, Snowdon, Slieve Donard, and Corran Tuathail. The challenge is unforgettable in so many ways – combining teamwork, motivation, incredible scenery and physical endurance, whilst contributing to Water Aid’s work, bringing clean water and sanitation to some of the world’s poorest people. The challenge has raised over £750,000 for Water Aid over the years. Each team has to raise a minimum of £5000 in sponsorship. Clean water is essential for life, but one in eight people do not have it.
